"Each and every time he issues an illegal executive order, I am going to stand up to him because he represents, to me, sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."A champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), James noted that the incumbent's attack on such practices was not limited to race but encompassed issues such as parental leave and disability rights.

James is known to follow through on her words. When Trump directed federal agencies to ensure that hospitals receiving federal grants did not provide gender-affirming care, the New York AG wrote a letter to all hospitals reminding them that they would be held in violation of state law if they withheld treatment, as per The Daily Fetched.
"Electing to refuse services to a class of individuals based on their protected status, such as withholding the availability of services from transgender individuals based on their gender identity or their diagnosis of gender dysphoria, while offering such services to cisgender individuals, is discrimination under New York law,” James noted.
